Summary

As fundamental demands in the machine industry are seemed the shorter throughput times and lower production costs. These goals could be achieved in tooling with an innovation process, namely by recent construction tools, enhanced geometry, more productive tool's substrate and progressive coating layers from day to day.

Tool making companies give preference to two types of milling cutters. One type of milling cutters performs the cutting strategy known as high feed milling, the other one, the tangentially oriented insert construction – applied an advantageous geometry -  is perfect for heavy depths of cut, but main cutting force is relatively low.

In this article both types of milling cutters will be shown, the encouraging results of the application will be sorted as well by which the success in the fields of cutting forces and rough-milled surface finish can be guaranteed.
